How do I find a note on the fretboard?
Choose your instrument and tuning, then pick the note and accidental. Every fret where that note sounds is marked; choose an octave to single out one exact pitch, and tap any fret to hear it.
Why does the same note appear on several strings?
Strings overlap in range, so most pitches can be played in two or three places. On a standard-tuned guitar, for example, the E at the 5th fret of the B string is the same pitch as the open high E string.
Is C sharp the same as D flat?
On a fretboard and a piano, yes – it is the same key or fret. On the staff they are written differently: C♯ sits on the C line or space with a sharp, D♭ on the D position with a flat. The note finder shows the spelling you choose.
